A key element in the design of a driver is its roll, or the curvature of the face from the sole to crown. Roll is used to correct for excess backspin on a low shot and a shortage of backspin on a high shot. The roll effectively decreases the launch angle for excessive spin (low shots) and increases the launch angle for a shortage of spin (high shots). This will ultimately minimize distance losses for shots struck above and below face center. However, with Cobra’s patented Advanced Material Placement Technology™, we are able to position the driver’s Center of Gravity (CG) to dramatically reduce backspin for shots struck below face center. This allows us to “flatten” the lower half of the driver face, resulting in a higher launch angle. The bottom line? A combination of higher launch angle and decreased spin resulting in greater distance gains for shots struck below face center. |
